Yellow Rain Warning Extended in South England | Devon and Cornwall forecast

Heavy rain is in the forecast for Devon

Heavy rain is in the forecast for Devon, Cornwall, and a significant part of southern England, which has raised concerns about potential flooding over the weekend.

The Met Office has extended its yellow warning for rain following the recent impact of Storm Ciarán, which brought flooding and damage to the region.

The Environment Agency (EA) has emphasized that rivers may rise rapidly due to the already saturated ground, making it crucial for people to sign up for the EA's flood warning service and stay informed about conditions in their areas.

The Met Office's warning states, "There is a possibility of flooding in a few homes and businesses. Additionally, large waves may create hazardous conditions along some English Channel coastlines."

Clarissa Newell, a representative from the Environment Agency in the South West, explained, "When the catchment areas are already filled with water like this, it's essential to be aware that water levels can rise very quickly. You might only think it's a bit of rain, but suddenly it could be seeping through your door."

Roads are closed

In such situations, Newell advised people to turn off electricity and gas, move to a safe location, and ensure they have important documents with them. Most railway services have resumed on Saturday, but the GWR line between Liskeard and Looe is expected to remain closed for the day due to the heavy rain and strong winds over the past 24 hours.

A bus replacement service is in operation, and tickets for Saturday travel can be used on Sunday. Stay safe and stay informed about the weather conditions in your area.
